Dress Code

Dear Hazel Valley Families,

Thank you to everyone who took the time to provide feedback around our uniform survey that was sent home on May 18. We collected 324 surveys.

The results are as follows:

  • Votes in favor of having uniforms 119
  • Votes in favor of NOT having uniforms 228

For the 2018-19, we will no longer have a uniform dress code. Instead, students will be expected to follow the following guidelines for school dress to ensure they are ready to learn:

Students should dress each and every day ready to learn. We encourage students to dress appropriately for the weather and activities for the day. On days your child’s classroom goes to PE, tennis shoes are highly recommended. A jacket or raincoat is necessary as children will be outside for recess on rainy or cold days.

Clothing should reflect a positive learning environment (Logos on clothing should be appropriate for the classroom.) Tops should be long enough so that the midriff does not show.
Hats are to only be worn outside.

We appreciate everyone who participated in this survey and understand that there may be opposite views and beliefs for both having a uniform or not. As a Hazel Valley staff, we want to continue to embrace our district and school promise of ensuring EVERY STUDENT in Highline Public Schools is known by NAME, STRENGTH and NEED, and graduates prepared for the future they choose. Please make sure to reach out to your child’s teacher with any concerns.
