17 Highline Schools Recogni zed in the HealthierUS Challenge

More than half of Highline schools are getting recognized for healthier eating and fitness through the HealthierUS Schools Challenge this year.

Schools recognized through the HealthierUS School Challenge are:

  • Beverly Park Elementary School (Silver) 
  • Cedarhurst Elementary School (Silver)
  • Des Moines Elementary School (Silver)
  • Gregory Heights Elementary School (Bronze)
  • Hazel Valley Elementary School (Silver)
  • Hilltop Elementary School (Silver)
  • Madrona Elementary School (Gold)
  • McMicken Elementary School (Silver)
  • Midway Elementary School (Gold)
  • Mount View Elementary School (Gold)
  • North Hill Elementary School (Bronze)
  • Parkside Elementary School (Silver)
  • Seahurst Elementary School (Silver)
  • Shorewood Elementary School (Silver)
  • Southern Heights Elementary School (Gold) 
  • White Center Heights Elementary School (Gold) 

The HealthierUS School Challenge is a voluntary certification recognizing schools. Schools must meet stringent criteria for the school meal program, nutrition education, physical activity and school policies that support wellness. Award levels vary based on the number of students participating.   

The HealthierUS School Challenge recognizes schools for:

  • Serving school lunches that reflect the Dietary Guidelines for Americans;
  • Restricting the availability of foods and beverages at school to those meeting healthier guidelines for lower fat, sugars and sodium;
  • Offering nutrition education for students on making healthy choices; and
  • Providing physical education and opportunities for students to be physically active during the school day
